I founded Project Share in 2011, and it remains one of the favourite projects I have worked on.

It’s focus was to improve social mobility of youth in disadvantaged and underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.

Our key programmes included Summer Internship Programme, Factory Series Art Workshop, and Interview Workshops.

We also conducted research and tracking alongside our programmes to measure their effectiveness and impact, and to understand the root cause of social mobility problem in Hong Kong.

Sadly, Project Share closed in 2019. We saw these young people through the Umbrella Revolution, further education applications, new jobs, leaving home and marriage.

As with all activist work, there were challenging times, ups and downs. I am very grateful to all the partners for their support and most particularly to the team who made Project Share an important part of the HK youth we worked with: Jackie Ng, Maggie Leung, Morgan Lau, Ada Wong, Stephanie Tai and Dr. Kevin Ming for all their amazing work.

I am also grateful to Professor Lui Tai-lok who was Head of Hong Kong University’s Department of Sociology and generously (and patiently) gave me his time on various Saturday morning’s to discuss poverty, class and social mobility in Hong Kong.
